This weekโ€™s Magic card market was all about the unbans in Modern this past Monday. Two cards came off the banned list, and the market reacted with all the subtlety of a turn-three cascade spell.

Violent Outburst is back, Umezawa's Jitte got its long-awaited first shot at Modern, and even old partners-in-crime like Crashing Footfalls came along for the ride.

Letโ€™s take a look at the biggest movers from a very unban-heavy week!

Violent Outburst

Violent Outburst

Violent Outburstโ€˜s violent price spike has made it a strong contender for โ€œBiggest Movers of the Year.โ€ It used to be a fairly pricey card a couple of years ago, trading between $4 and $6โ€ฆ until it caught a ban in March 2024 (to curb the power of cascade decks; Temur Rhinos specifically), and its price was sent to the bulk bin.

It then spent the whole of 2025 trading at well below fifty centsโ€ฆ where it was until this Monday, when it shot all the way to $8: 1600% increase in just a couple of days!

Interestingly, Violent Outburstโ€˜s unban seems to have caught Modern players off-guard: You often see some price action before the B&R, as savvy speculators bet on cards that they think have good odds of being unbannedโ€ฆ but in this case, the price was flat as a slab right up to the announcement. The price spike seems to be fairly justified in this case: Living End decks are already putting the card to good use on MTGO leagues and, as noted, Violent Outburst was at around the current price when it was legal two years ago.

Crashing Footfalls

Crashing Footfalls

A rising tide lifts all boats! Crashing Footfalls shows a very similar price history as Violent Outburst: a pretty pricey card back in 2023, that was then violently discarded to the dustbin right until last Monday.

No bans or unbans in this caseโ€ฆ but this green sorcery was Violent Outburstโ€˜s partner in Modern crime back then, and they seem to be back to their old ways now.

Crashing Footfalls is also pretty scarce, given it was never reprinted outside Mystery Booster 2 and Special Guests (Violent Outburst has been reprinted in Foundations: Jumpstart). And they are both fairly competitive in Legacy, too, so it does look like a couple of cards that won't come down in price anytime soon.

Umezawa's Jitte

Umezawa's Jitte

Umezawa's Jitte was the other card unbanned in Modern this past Mondayโ€ฆ but, unlike the instant, the Jitte lacks a competitive Modern track record since it was never legal in the format.

โ€œWhen Modern first became a sanctioned format, it had about 20 cards on its banned list, including Jitte,โ€ wrote WotC's Carmen Klomparens in the B&R announcement. โ€œMagic has changed a lot since 2011. We've also seen players happy to play with the card in formats like Legacy and Cube. We hope that this unban will inspire people to try out more combat-oriented decks or breathe new life into Stoneforge Mystic decks that have been on the fringes of Modern for a few years now.โ€

So while Violent Outburst is the return of a champion, Umezawa's Jitte is more of a โ€œLet's add a powerful card to the format and see what happens.โ€ And prices have reacted accordingly: the original printing of Umezawa's Jitte is up by a good 80% since last week, although a far cry from Violent Outburstโ€˜s spike.

The interesting detail is that the unban seems to have made Jitte's TMNT version quite a bit more palatable.

In this case, the initial spike was close to 600%, from around $2.50 to about $15 (although it has retraced back a bit since then).

Corporeal Projection

Corporeal Projection

Not everything's about Modern this week, though! Corporeal Projection has nearly doubled in price since last Friday, in what looks like combination of increased popularity (it's often played with Secrets of Strixhaven's Muddle, the Ever-Changing in the command zone), and a fairly hard-to-find card: It has only been printed in Ravnica: Clue Edition, and there are relatively few listed copies right now.
