Despite delays, the Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle is finally here. The Secret Lair Bundles have been very popular recently, despite being a bit difficult to get your hands on. However, we just got confirmation from Wizards of the Coast that they are planning to have Secret Lair Bundles for all future in-universe Magic sets.

When IGN asked Wizards of the Coast about Secret Lair bundles, they had this to say:

“In the time since we spoke with the Wizards of the Coast team, the Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle has been delayed. We asked about whether it’ll be sticking around.

‘Yes! Secret Lair Bundle will become a staple of Magic Multiverse sets and is expected to appear in those sets going forward.’

‘Part of the impetus for launching these bundles was to consolidate Special Bundles into one incredible package that we could repeat set over set. The theming of Reality Fracture and how we explore Jace’s inner sanctum made a lot of thematic sense to use as the jumping-off point for this new product line.'”

For those unfamiliar, the Reality Fracture Secret Lair Bundle includes the following:

• 6 Reality Fracture Play Boosters

• 2 Reality Fracture Collector Boosters

• 2 of 10 mythic rare Secret Lair cards

• 20 traditional foil borderless land cards

• 1 exclusive Spindown life counter

Going forward this will presumably be the format that other sets’ bundles will follow. This solves a big issue that they addressed in the quote, which was a need for consolidation. It’s no secret that there’s been a bloat of products, and so to have one main headliner product that will be accompanying any given in-Universe set is very welcome.

As for cost, the listed MSRP is currently at $89.99 USD, however because of delays and therefore limited supply, prices on the secondary market are a bit higher, going for around $130 USD on multiple sites.

A Win For The Players?

Obviously all Magic products are designed for the players. Who else would care? But recently there has been a feeling of catering to a crowd that perhaps doesn’t represent the average player. Specifically, I’m talking about Collector Booster Boxes and highly exclusive Secret Lairs, the former costing hundreds and hundreds of dollars, the latter getting bought out by scalpers before most people even have a chance. In either case, there is an inflated secondary market, and it starts to seem very unaffordable to the average player to care about these products in a meaningful way.

Hopefully, regularly printed Secret Lair Bundles can be a solution to these problems, if not in full then at least partially. It gives a taste of what these other products have to offer without a price tag that is out of reach, and ideally if there aren’t delays going forward, people will be able to snag them at MSRP or close to it.

One big takeaway from the statement Wizards of the Coast made is that these will be “a staple of Magic Multiverse sets”, implying they are only for in-Universe sets. This is interesting, as it seems like since the advent of Universes Beyond sets, traditional in-Universe sets haven’t been getting the same love and attention, at least as far as product releases are concerned.

Perhaps this is an indication of a returning focus on Magic’s own IP, afterall, it’s what built the game and it seems like it’s what a lot of the more enfranchised players care about. You could also point to the feeling of Universes Beyond fatigue that many are feeling as an indication that maybe the market isn’t absorbing as much product from these Universes Beyond sets as Wizards of the Coast would like, although their earnings are still doing great and this likely isn’t the case, at least not quite yet. In any event, it’s good to see the regular sets getting some love.

Wrap Up

The Secret Lair Bundle is still a fairly new product, and time will tell if it’s something that’s worth keeping around, but so far it seems like people like it and it seems like Wizards of the Coast has faith in it. Hopefully this feels like an improvement to the available options for those looking to collect, and hopefully it won’t get bought up by scalpers looking to make a quick buck. Will you be buying the next Secret Lair Bundle?
