Last week, the Secret Lair site posted a teaser that included a slightly cryptic hint in a banner at the top of the home page.

โ€œHunter Rank required: ???โ€ could immediately allude to numerous intellectual properties that would make sense given the proper context, though it's since been confirmed that Monster Hunter is coming to Magic, very soon in fact.

It's been said โˆž times, but Final Fantasy is the most financially successful MTG set of all time by an enormous margin. Up until FIN, MTG video game crossovers were only moderately successful. I've personally never sat at a table with a Fallout commander other than The Wise Mothman. Baldur's Gate was divisive, and Assassin's Creed performed quite poorly.

Things evidently seem to be turning around. The PlayStation and Sonic: The Hedgehog Secret Lairs were wildly triumphant, and resale on sealed Fallout product is obtusely high.

Well, folks, it looks like we're in for a Secret Lair Superdrop from a titan of the Japanese video game world: Monster Hunter

No Need to Speculate

There were some question marks surrounding the upcoming Monster Hunter Secret Lair, but it's all out in the open now, ready to be hunted down.

The Monster Hunter Superdrop will be available from December 1-December 22, assuming they don't sell out immediately. It consists of four drops each priced at $30 for non-foils and $40 for foils. Thanks to IGN, we know which cards are coming in the drops:

The Hunt

The Hunters

The Monsters I & II

IGN was present at the press conference at which these were revealed, but were not able to make a distinction between which cards appeared in which drop, so these are lumped together in one space:

Of course, all of these Secret Lair cards will be reskinned as entities from the Monster Hunter universe, and each lair will include an unknown bonus card, so there are realistically four additional cards here that we don't know about yet.

Wrap Up

Nergigante from Monster Hunter: World

Nergigante, an elder dragon from the series, is literally regenerating at all moments. Sounds like a good time to design a new MTG card with regenerate. There's another elder dragon whose name is Kirin, which just so happens to be an MTG creature type that could use some new support. Another Colossus Hammer reprint feels flavorful, but who knows, maybe we'll get new mechanically unique equipment or two.

Monster Hunter lovers, rejoice. We don't know when the drop is coming yet, but it's most certainly en route.
